Manchester United chief Jason Wilcox is reportedly spearheading the club’s pursuit of Newcastle United starlet Lewis Hall this summer.

That’s according to UtdDistrict, which adds that United view the Magpies ace as a ‘possible solution’ to their left-back woes ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign.

Why Lewis Hall is being considered as Luke Shaw’s long-term replacement

Indeed, the left-hand side of defence will need seriously looking at when the window opens next month.

Although Luke Shaw looks poised to do the unthinkable and finish the campaign having started every single Premier League fixture, there remain major concerns over his physicality following an injury-ridden 12 years at Old Trafford.

Considering the side will be looking to compete on all fronts next term, including on the biggest European stage in the Champions League, depth will be essential in all areas of the squad.

Who else is available to rival Shaw?

Aside from 30-year-old Shaw, United may look to keep youngster Harry Amass, 19, after the summer, so long as he’s fully recovered from the lengthy injury setback that ended his half-season loan spell with Norwich City this year.

Patrick Dorgu occupied the position on numerous occasions last term after signing in a £30 million switch from Lecce. However, in the most recent appearances he made before his hamstring layoff, he had enjoyed his most impressive form when playing further forward as a winger.

How Hall has fared in recent years

Hall, 21, is tied to St. James’ Park until June 2029.

While he is a self-proclaimed boyhood Newcastle fan, he actually came through the ranks at Chelsea before signing for the Magpies two years ago.

He has since made a real name for himself on Tyneside – so much so that his stellar form was acknowledged by then-England manager Lee Carsley in November 2024, who opted to grant the defender his first two senior Three Lions caps.

Hall had to wait until this March before he was recalled to the setup under Thomas Tuchel, adding his third and fourth caps in friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

It goes without saying that he’ll be crossing his fingers and hoping he’s done enough to warrant a place in Tuchel’s World Cup selection this summer.
